Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Nutrition Assistant Health Care to join our partner organization in the heart of the Giraffe Centre community in Nairobi. This vital role involves supporting registered dietitians and nutritionists in delivering high-quality nutritional care, education, and support to a diverse clientele. You will play a crucial part in promoting healthy eating habits, preventing diet-related illnesses, and enhancing the overall well-being of individuals within our care. The Nutrition Assistant Health Care will assist with patient assessments, help develop individualized meal plans, monitor dietary adherence, and provide practical advice on food preparation and healthy lifestyle choices. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate client records, preparing nutritional reports, and collaborating effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and comprehensive patient care. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists in conducting initial and follow-up nutritional assessments for clients.
  • Help develop and implement individualized meal plans and dietary recommendations based on client needs and health conditions.
  • Monitor client dietary adherence and progress, making adjustments to plans as necessary under supervision.
  • Provide basic nutrition education and counseling to individuals and groups on healthy eating habits, food choices, and meal preparation.
  • Support in organizing and conducting community nutrition workshops, health fairs, and educational presentations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including dietary histories, progress notes, and other relevant information.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals (e.g., doctors, nurses, social workers) to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Assist with inventory management of nutritional supplements and educational materials.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of nutritional interventions and client outcomes.
  • Stay updated on current nutritional guidelines, research, and best practices in health care.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Certificate in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related health field.
  • Proven experience in a healthcare or community nutrition setting.
  • Strong understanding of basic nutrition principles and dietary guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and data management.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and empathy when interacting with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or a related field.
  • Registration with a relevant professional nutrition body in Kenya.
  • Experience in community outreach and public health education.
  • Knowledge of local food systems and cultural dietary practices in Kenya.
  • Fluency in Swahili in addition to English.
