As a Nutrition Wellness Assistant, you will be at the forefront of our community health efforts. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and delivery of community-based nutrition education workshops and health awareness campaigns.
- Conduct basic nutritional assessments, including anthropometric measurements (weight, height, MUAC) and dietary intake surveys, under supervision.
- Provide individual and group counselling on healthy eating practices, food preparation, and hygiene to community members.
- Support the distribution of nutritional supplements and educational materials to target populations.
- Collect and maintain accurate data related to program activities, participant progress, and community health indicators.
- Collaborate with local community health workers, volunteers, and leaders to ensure effective program outreach and engagement.
- Identify individuals and families at risk of malnutrition and refer them to appropriate healthcare services.
- Participate in community outreach events, health fairs, and home visits to promote wellness initiatives.
- Assist in preparing concise reports on program activities, challenges, and successes for monitoring and evaluation.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient and community information in adherence to ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Proven knowledge of basic nutrition principles and healthy eating guidelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in engaging with diverse community members.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a community-based setting.
- Proficiency in data collection and meticulous record-keeping.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks effectively.
- Fluency in Swahili (written and spoken) is essential for effective communication with local communities.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel).
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to health education and community interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Nutrition, Community Health, Public Health, or a closely related field.
- At least 1 year of experience working with rural communities in a health or social development context.
- Familiarity with local food systems, traditional dietary practices, and cultural nuances in Pemba.
- Possession of a valid motorcycle driving license for community outreach activities.
