Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, specialized nursing care to oncology patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, and other cancer treatments following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions, complications, and side effects of treatment, intervening promptly and effectively.
  • Educate patients and their families about cancer diagnoses, treatment plans, medication management, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.
  • Manage symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and other treatment-related issues, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychological, and social needs, developing individualized care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records, documenting all aspects of patient care, treatments, and communications.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including oncologists, radiation therapists, pharmacists, social workers, and other nurses.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, ensuring patient safety and quality of care.
  • Provide emotional support, counseling, and advocacy for patients and families facing the challenges of cancer.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain and enhance oncology nursing expertise.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Saskatchewan.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least 1 year in an oncology setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in chemotherapy administration and management of related side effects.
  • Exceptional clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills for interacting with patients and families.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Oncology Nursing (CON(C)).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience with specific oncology-related technologies or procedures (e.g., central line care, port access).
  • Membership in professional oncology nursing organizations.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
