Job Description

The Wildlife & Environment Society of Zimbabwe (WESZ) is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Online Membership Community Manager to lead the engagement and growth of our vibrant online member community. This pivotal role is designed for a self-starter who understands the nuances of digital interaction and can strategically foster a sense of belonging and purpose among our members, supporters, and conservation enthusiasts.

Working remotely with flexible hours, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies to deepen member engagement, encourage active participation, and amplify WESZ’s mission across various online platforms. You will be the friendly face and guiding hand of our digital presence, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for everyone. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive online community engagement strategy aligned with WESZ's mission and membership goals.
  • Curate, create, and schedule engaging content (posts, articles, videos, polls, events) relevant to conservation, WESZ activities, and member interests.
  • Actively moderate community discussions, ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members.
  • Initiate and facilitate conversations, Q&A sessions, webinars, and other interactive activities to foster deeper engagement.
  • Monitor community sentiment, identify trends, and provide timely responses to member queries and feedback.
  • Implement strategies for membership acquisition, retention, and re-engagement within the online community.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (marketing, programs, fundraising) to integrate online community efforts with broader organisational initiatives.
  • Analyse community metrics (engagement rates, growth, sentiment) and generate reports to inform future strategies.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends in online community management, social media, and digital engagement.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in managing and growing online communities, preferably for a non-profit or membership-based organisation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with a knack for crafting engaging and persuasive content.
  • Strong moderation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills to foster a positive community culture.
  • Proficiency with various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook Groups, Instagram, Twitter) and community management tools.
  • Ability to analyse data, interpret metrics, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently in a remote setting.
  • A genuine passion for environmental conservation, wildlife, and the mission of WESZ.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Environmental Studies, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience with CRM or membership management software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot).
  • Previous experience working within the NGO or non-profit sector in Zimbabwe.
  • Basic graphic design or video editing skills for creating engaging visual content.
  • Knowledge of local Zimbabwean environmental issues and conservation challenges.
