Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room with all necessary sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies according to surgical case requirements.
- Assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving, maintaining strict aseptic techniques throughout all procedures.
- Manage and maintain surgical instruments, including sterilization, cleaning, and proper storage.
- Operate and troubleshoot various surgical equipment, ensuring functionality and safety checks are completed.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and provide instruments and supplies efficiently during procedures.
- Monitor and manage the sterile field, identifying and reporting any breaches in sterile technique.
- Participate in surgical counts (instrument, sponge, needle) with the circulating nurse to ensure patient safety.
- Assist with patient positioning, transportation, and transfer in and out of the operating theatre.
- Document relevant information accurately and promptly according to established protocols.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and national health and safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Completed vocational training as an Operating Theatre Technician (Operationstechnischer Assistent, OTA) or equivalent qualification recognized in Germany.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience working in an operating theatre setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and equipment.
- Proficiency in maintaining aseptic techniques and infection control principles.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Fluency in German (B2 level or higher) is essential for patient interaction and team communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized training or certification in a particular surgical discipline (e.g., orthopaedics, neurosurgery).
- Experience with advanced surgical technologies and minimally invasive procedures.
