Job Description
Makana Granite is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of our granite mining and processing operations in Mutoko, Mashonaland East Province. This pivotal role requires a results-oriented leader who can ensure the efficient, safe, and cost-effective daily functioning of our production facilities and quarry sites. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all day-to-day mining, processing, and logistics operations at the Mutoko site.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) policies and regulations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of supervisors, engineers, and general laborers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Monitor production schedules, manage inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods, and ensure timely delivery.
- Oversee the maintenance and effective utilization of heavy machinery, equipment, and plant infrastructure.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare regular operational reports, analyze performance metrics, and present findings to senior management.
- Manage operational budgets, control expenses, and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Coordinate with other departments, including sales, finance, and human resources, to ensure seamless operations.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, permits, and local legislation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in operations management within the mining, heavy manufacturing, or aggregates industry.
- Strong understanding of mining techniques, quarrying operations, and processing plant management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage large, diverse teams effectively.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in operational planning, budgeting, and performance reporting.
- Thorough knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations (HSEQ) relevant to heavy industry.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
- Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite and operational management software.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mining, Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial), Operations Management, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related management field.
- Professional certification in Project Management (PMP) or Lean Six Sigma.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in an operational context.
- Familiarity with Zimbabwean mining laws and regulations.
- Ability to speak local languages (e.g., Shona) is an advantage.
