As an Optical Shop Trainee, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of our busy optical store, learning the fundamentals of optical retail, customer service, and vision care. You will work alongside experienced opticians and sales professionals, gaining hands-on experience with frame selection, lens types, appointment scheduling, and front-desk operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome customers to the optical shop, providing a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
  • Assist customers with basic inquiries, directing them to appropriate staff or sections of the store.
  • Learn to assist customers in selecting appropriate eyeglass frames and lenses based on their prescription, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, managing the appointment book efficiently.
  • Perform basic administrative duties, including data entry, filing, and maintaining customer records with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the optical shop, ensuring frames are displayed neatly and the environment is welcoming.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with stock checks and organizing merchandise.
  • Shadow experienced opticians and optometrists to learn about various eye conditions, lens technologies, and optical dispensing techniques.
  • Handle routine customer service issues, escalating complex matters to senior staff.
  • Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems for sales transactions and process payments accurately.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and a desire to help others.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, email).
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new information and procedures.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment is a plus, but not required.
