Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Optometrist to join our growing healthcare team in Triolet, Pamplemousses District. As our Optometrist, you will be at the forefront of providing comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing and treating various ocular conditions, and prescribing corrective lenses or other vision aids. Your role will involve utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to assess visual acuity, refractive errors, and ocular health. You will be responsible for detecting early signs of conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration, offering appropriate management plans or referrals to ophthalmologists when necessary. Beyond the clinical aspects, you will play a crucial role in patient education, empowering individuals to understand their eye health, preventative measures, and the proper use and care of their vision correction solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity tests, refraction, and ocular health assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage various ocular conditions, diseases, and visual impairments.
  • Prescribe and fit corrective lenses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
  • Educate patients on proper eye care, contact lens hygiene, and preventative measures.
  • Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other medical specialists when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and ensure compliance with all health regulations.
  • Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment, ensuring accuracy and safety.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in optometry and best practices.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgeries.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide holistic patient care.

Required Skills

  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree or equivalent.
  • Valid license to practice optometry in Mauritius.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as an Optometrist.
  • Proficiency in performing comprehensive eye exams and diagnosing ocular conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specialty contact lens fittings (e.g., multifocal, toric).
  • Certification in specific optometric procedures or treatments.
  • Bilingualism (English and French/Creole) to better serve the local community.
  • Prior experience working in a community-based practice or diverse patient population.
