Key Responsibilities

  • Assist optometrists with pre-testing procedures, including auto-refraction, visual field screening, and tonometry.
  • Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and proper functionality of equipment before and after patient visits.
  • Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and care techniques.
  • Manage patient flow, including scheduling appointments, confirming bookings, and handling initial patient intake.
  • Assist patients with frame selection and basic adjustments, explaining various lens options and coatings.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and manage electronic health records (EHR) systems with strict adherence to privacy policies.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, filing, processing payments, and managing insurance claims.
  • Sterilize and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment according to health and safety protocols.
  • Support inventory management for frames, lenses, contact lenses, and other optical supplies.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and patient confidentiality (HIPAA/PIPEDA) protocols.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
  • Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced clinical environment.
