Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Painter to join our network of construction finishing and maintenance professionals in the vibrant Sea Mills, Bristol area. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of painting tasks, from meticulous surface preparation to the final flawless coat. This includes expertly stripping old paint, precisely sanding, patching, caulking, and priming various surfaces, ensuring they are perfectly clean, smooth, and ready for superior paint adhesion. You will work with a wide array of materials and tools, applying paint, stains, varnishes, and other protective or decorative finishes using brushes, rollers, and sprayers with exceptional proficiency. A deep understanding of different paint types and their appropriate application methods for various substrates will be key to your success. Beyond just application, you’ll be involved in colour matching, mixing paints to achieve desired shades, and ensuring consistent texture and coverage across all project elements.
Safety is paramount in all our operations, and you will be expected to adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including working safely at heights using scaffolding and ladders, and proper handling and disposal of chemicals and equipment. Your ability to work independently on smaller tasks or seamlessly integrate as part of a larger project team, managing your time effectively to meet project deadlines without compromising quality, will be crucial. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare various surfaces for painting, including cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, and priming.
- Apply paint, varnish, stain, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
- Match colours and textures, ensuring a consistent and high-quality finish across all surfaces.
- Repair minor cracks and holes, and caulk seams and joints for a smooth application.
- Erect scaffolding, ladders, and protective sheeting, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, properly storing and disposing of materials.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Inspect finished work for quality and completeness, performing touch-ups as needed.
- Estimate material requirements and communicate needs effectively to supervisors.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure project synergy and timely completion.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Painter in construction or maintenance settings.
- Excellent knowledge of painting materials, tools, and techniques.
- Proficient in surface preparation, including stripping, sanding, and priming.
- Strong understanding of colour theory and matching.
- Ability to work safely at heights and operate relevant equipment (e.g., scaffolding, ladders).
- Manual dexterity and a steady hand for precise work.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality finishes.
- Good physical condition and stamina to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Valid UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Painting and Decorating.
- CSCS card certification.
- Experience with specialist finishes or decorative techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints or specifications.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to changing project needs.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
