Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, filling, patching, and priming, ensuring optimal adhesion and a smooth base.
  • Accurately mix and match paint colours and textures according to project specifications, client requests, and designer palettes.
  • Apply paint, varnish, stain, and other protective/decorative finishes efficiently using various tools including brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Protect adjacent surfaces, flooring, and furniture with drop cloths, masking tape, and other preventative measures.
  • Erect, maintain, and dismantle scaffolding or ladders as necessary, strictly adhering to all site-specific and industry safety regulations.
  • Inspect finished surfaces for quality, consistency, and address any imperfections or touch-ups required to achieve a flawless result.
  • Clean up work areas and properly store or dispose of materials, tools, and equipment upon completion of tasks.
  • Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople, contractors, and site management to ensure project timelines and goals are met.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, company policies, and environmental regulations on site.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Painter in a commercial or residential construction setting.
  • Proficiency in comprehensive surface preparation techniques.
  • Expertise in various painting methods including brushwork, roller application, and spray gun operation.
  • Ability to accurately mix and match colours and understand paint chemistry.
  • Strong attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to high-quality finishes.
  • In-depth knowledge of different paint types, finishes, and their appropriate applications.
  • Physical stamina, dexterity, and the ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet project deadlines.
  • A strong understanding of on-site health and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Card.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Painting and Decorating.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Experience with specialist finishes or decorative painting techniques.
  • Valid UK Driving License with access to own transport.
