Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred palliative care to residents during night hours, adhering to individual care plans.
  • Assist residents with personal care, mobility, and feeding, ensuring comfort and dignity at all times.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, observing for any changes in health or well-being and reporting concerns promptly to the nursing staff.
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to residents and their families, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity.
  • Administer prescribed medication as per training and care plan, maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents.
  • Assist with repositioning residents to prevent pressure sores and ensure comfort.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Document care provided accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies.

Required Skills

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Care Assistant, ideally in a palliative or elderly care setting
  • Demonstrable understanding of palliative care principles and end-of-life care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team during night shifts
  • Strong observational and reporting skills
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to care
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specific training or certifications in palliative care or end-of-life care
  • Experience with electronic care planning systems
  • First Aid certification
