Key Responsibilities

  • Execute general grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, trimming, weeding, raking, and leaf blowing across designated park areas.
  • Cultivate and maintain flower beds, shrubs, and trees through precise pruning, regular watering, and effective pest management.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of park facilities such as restrooms, picnic zones, playgrounds, and pedestrian pathways, verifying their safety and tidiness for public enjoyment.
  • Safely and efficiently operate and maintain a range of hand tools and power equipment, including but not limited to mowers, trimmers, blowers, and small utility vehicles.
  • Provide assistance with minor repairs and routine maintenance of park infrastructure, such as benches, fences, signage, and irrigation systems.
  • Diligently monitor park premises for potential hazards, structural damage, or unauthorized activities, reporting any issues promptly to supervising staff.
  • Systematically collect and dispose of litter and waste, including the regular emptying of all trash receptacles throughout the parks.
  • Support essential seasonal tasks, which may include snow removal, facility winterization, and preparing grounds for upcoming spring and summer activities.
  • Adhere rigorously to all established safety regulations and guidelines, consistently utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 6 months of practical experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or general labor roles.
  • Proficiency in operating basic landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
  • Exceptional physical stamina, with the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs and perform demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Foundational knowledge of basic horticultural practices and plant care is considered a significant asset.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License with an impeccable driving record.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and collaborative teamwork skills.
  • Proven reliability, punctuality, and a strong, dedicated work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent secondary education.
  • Prior experience with minor equipment maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Familiarity with local plant species and environmental regulations specific to British Columbia.
  • Previous professional experience gained within a municipal or public park setting.
