Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pathologist to join our dynamic team in Harare, Harare Province. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to patient care through expert diagnostic interpretation and laboratory leadership. As a Pathologist at Lancet Laboratories Zimbabwe, you will be at the forefront of medical diagnostics, playing a pivotal role in the accurate and timely diagnosis of various diseases. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of pathology disciplines, including anatomical pathology, clinical pathology, and molecular pathology, depending on your sub-specialty and the needs of our comprehensive laboratory services.
You will be responsible for examining tissues, organs, bodily fluids, and performing laboratory tests to determine the presence, extent, and cause of diseases. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex medical information to clinicians. You will work within a supportive environment equipped with advanced diagnostic technologies, collaborating closely with a team of skilled medical technologists, scientists, and other healthcare professionals. Beyond diagnostic duties, you will also be involved in quality assurance initiatives, contributing to the development of new testing methodologies, and participating in ongoing professional development and training programs. Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross and microscopic examination of surgical specimens, biopsies, and cytology samples.
- Provide accurate and timely diagnostic interpretations and reports for various pathology sub-specialties.
- Consult with clinicians regarding laboratory results, diagnostic findings, and appropriate testing strategies.
- Oversee and validate laboratory testing procedures, ensuring adherence to national and international quality standards.
- Participate in laboratory quality control and quality assurance programs, identifying areas for improvement.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new diagnostic tests and methodologies.
- Engage in continuous professional development and medical education to stay abreast of advancements in pathology.
- Supervise and mentor junior laboratory staff and medical technologists.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical conferences.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Specialist qualification in Pathology (e.g., FCPath, FRCPath, or equivalent).
- Current registration with the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-specialization experience in a diagnostic pathology setting.
- Profound knowledge of anatomical pathology, clinical pathology, and laboratory management.
- Exceptional diagnostic and interpretative skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clinicians and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Sub-specialty fellowship training in an area such as histopathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, or molecular pathology.
- Experience with laboratory accreditation processes (e.g., ISO 15189).
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience within a pathology laboratory.
- Participation in research or academic activities.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS).
