Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Full-Time Pathologist to join our esteemed medical team at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital. This is a pivotal role that involves providing expert diagnostic services, contributing to patient care, and enhancing our laboratory capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a board-certified Pathologist with a strong background in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, possessing a keen eye for detail and an unwavering commitment to accuracy. You will be responsible for the macroscopic and microscopic examination of surgical specimens, cytological preparations, and performing autopsies when required. Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross and microscopic examination of surgical pathology specimens and cytology cases, rendering accurate and timely diagnoses.
- Conduct post-mortem examinations (autopsies) to determine cause of death and provide detailed reports.
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinical conferences, providing expert pathology consultation to clinicians and contributing to patient management decisions.
- Oversee and manage the operations of the pathology laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow, quality control, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide guidance and training to junior medical staff, laboratory technologists, and students.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to maintain the highest standards of diagnostic accuracy and laboratory operations.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in pathology through continuous professional development and participation in relevant research or audits.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all pathology findings and reports.
- Participate in hospital committees and initiatives aimed at improving patient care and clinical services.
Required Skills
- MBBS/MD or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Specialization in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (M.Med. Pathology or equivalent board certification).
- Current registration and valid practicing license with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Demonstrated expertise in diagnostic surgical pathology, cytology, and autopsy pathology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clinicians and laboratory staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (LIS) and standard office software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Sub-specialty training or fellowship in a specific area of pathology (e.g., dermatopathology, hematopathology, gastrointestinal pathology).
- Experience working in a county referral hospital or similar public health setting in Kenya.
- Involvement in medical research or publications.
- Proficiency in quality management systems (e.g., ISO 15189) in a diagnostic laboratory setting.
