This pivotal role involves providing essential direct patient care, working closely under the supervision of registered nurses and other medical professionals. Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and oxygen saturation.
- Document patient observations, changes in condition, and care provided accurately and timely.
- Assist with patient mobility, including ambulation, transfers, and positioning, using proper body mechanics and equipment.
- Perform delegated tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG leads placement, and glucose monitoring as per facility policy and scope of practice.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
- Respond to patient call lights promptly and efficiently.
- Collect specimens (e.g., urine, stool) as instructed and ensure proper labeling and transport.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in basic patient care procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills.
- Physical stamina to perform duties requiring standing, walking, lifting, and bending for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Previous experience (1+ years) in a hospital, clinic, or long-term care setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
