Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for all employees accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
- Maintain meticulous payroll records, including new hires, terminations, changes in pay rates, benefits deductions, and tax withholdings.
- Calculate wages, commissions, bonuses, deductions, and withholdings, reconciling discrepancies as they arise.
- Prepare and submit necessary payroll reports to management and relevant government agencies, including NIS and PAYE submissions.
- Address and resolve employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and benefits in a timely and professional manner.
- Stay updated on Guyanese labor laws, tax regulations, and other payroll-related compliance requirements to ensure ongoing adherence.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including the preparation of employee income statements and other annual statutory filings.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources department to ensure accurate and consistent data flow related to employee information.
- Support general accounting tasks, reconciliations, and financial reporting as required by the Accounting Manager.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Payroll Assistant or in a similar role within an accounting or finance department.
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks, PeachTree, or similar local accounting systems).
- Strong understanding of Guyanese payroll laws, NIS contributions, PAYE regulations, and other statutory requirements.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in data entry and calculations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive employee and company financial information.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively addressing employee inquiries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certification in Payroll administration (e.g., from a recognized professional body).
- Prior experience working with payroll in the recruitment or staffing industry.
- Familiarity with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
