Pel Pest Control Jamaica Ltd is seeking a motivated and dedicated Pest Control Trainee to join our growing team in Papine, Kingston. As a Trainee, you will embark on a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and certifications required to become a professional Pest Control Technician. You will learn about various pest species, their biology, behaviour, and the most effective and safe methods for their control and eradication. Our program covers everything from integrated pest management (IPM) principles to the safe handling of equipment and chemicals, customer service best practices, and regulatory compliance. You will work alongside experienced technicians, gaining hands-on experience in both residential and commercial settings, while also contributing to our commitment to eco-friendly practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all aspects of the comprehensive training program, including classroom sessions and extensive on-the-job training.
  • Learn to accurately identify common pests (e.g., insects, rodents, birds) and understand their habits, life cycles, and effective control methods.
  • Assist experienced Pest Control Technicians with service calls, including initial inspections, treatment application, and direct customer interaction.
  • Learn to safely and correctly use a variety of pest control equipment, application tools, and protective gear.
  • Understand and strictly adhere to all company safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry-specific policies regarding pest management and chemical handling.
  • Help prepare, load, and maintain service vehicles, ensuring all equipment and materials are organized and in good working order.
  • Develop strong customer service skills, learning how to effectively communicate with clients about their pest issues, recommended solutions, and preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of services performed, materials used, and customer interactions.
  • Continuously seek to improve knowledge and skills related to advanced pest control techniques, new technologies, and industry advancements through ongoing learning and development opportunities.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent academic qualification.
  • Valid Jamaican driver's license with a clean driving record (or ability to obtain one within the training period).
  • Strong willingness to learn, adapt quickly, and embrace new techniques and information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-centric approach.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, bending, and working in various indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Possession of basic problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong, positive work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a service-oriented role, general labour, or field service.
  • Basic knowledge of local geography for Papine and surrounding Kingston areas.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures for handling chemicals and understanding Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
