Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Petrochemical Plant Operator to join a dynamic team in the Swan Hill CBD area. This pivotal role involves the safe and efficient operation of complex petrochemical processing equipment, ensuring optimal production output while strictly adhering to all health, safety, and environmental regulations. As a Plant Operator, you will be instrumental in the day-to-day running of the facility, monitoring critical parameters, conducting routine checks, and responding promptly to any deviations or alarms. You will work within a sophisticated control room environment, utilizing advanced SCADA systems and process control technologies to manage various stages of petrochemical production, including distillation, cracking, and blending. This position demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to maintaining operational integrity. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor complex petrochemical processing equipment, including reactors, pumps, compressors, furnaces, and distillation columns.
- Perform routine plant inspections, identifying and reporting any anomalies, leaks, or equipment malfunctions.
- Interpret and respond to alarms and process deviations, adjusting controls as necessary to maintain optimal operating conditions.
- Conduct start-up, shut-down, and emergency procedures for various plant units safely and efficiently.
- Collect and analyze samples for quality control, ensuring product specifications are met.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, shift reports, and other required documentation.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with maintenance, engineering, and other operational teams.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and perform minor maintenance tasks as authorized.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Plant Operator in a petrochemical, chemical, or heavy industrial environment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, PFDs, and operating manuals.
- Strong understanding of process safety management principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to operate SCADA systems and other distributed control systems (DCS).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause analysis.
- Sound knowledge of chemistry, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics as applied to plant operations.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, shift-based environment.
- Physical fitness to perform duties including climbing ladders, working at heights, and lifting up to 25 kg.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade qualification or Diploma in Process Plant Operations, Chemical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Confined Space Entry and Working at Heights certifications.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with specific types of petrochemical processes (e.g., ethylene production, refining, ammonia synthesis).
