Job Description
JPS is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Petroleum Engineer to join our dynamic team in Ocho Rios, Saint Ann Parish. This critical technical role will be instrumental in optimizing our fuel management lifecycle, ensuring the efficient and environmentally responsible operation of our thermal generation assets and fuel storage facilities. As a Petroleum Engineer, you will apply your expertise beyond traditional upstream exploration, focusing on the sophisticated aspects of fuel procurement, quality assurance, storage, handling, and consumption optimization within a large-scale power generation utility. You will be at the forefront of ensuring that all liquid and gaseous fuels utilized across our generation fleet meet stringent quality specifications, performing detailed analysis and advising on fuel compatibility and treatment strategies. Your responsibilities will extend to monitoring fuel market trends, assessing potential new fuel technologies, and making recommendations for strategic fuel sourcing that enhances both operational reliability and cost-effectiveness.
You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive technical analyses of various fuel types (e.g., Heavy Fuel Oil, Diesel, potentially natural gas or other alternative fuels for future projects), evaluating their physical and chemical properties, performance characteristics, and compliance with stringent national and international environmental and operational standards. Your work will directly impact our operational efficiency, cost management, and environmental footprint, contributing significantly to JPS’s sustainability goals. This role involves close collaboration with power plant operators to troubleshoot fuel-related issues, procurement specialists for technical evaluations of supplier proposals, environmental compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulations, and strategic planning departments for long-term fuel strategy. You will provide expert technical guidance on fuel-related issues, contribute to the development of robust fuel specifications and storage protocols, manage fuel inventory effectively to minimize losses, and oversee technical projects aimed at improving fuel infrastructure, efficiency, and safety. If you are a technically adept Petroleum Engineer eager to apply your skills in a vital, national infrastructure setting, driving innovation in fuel management for power generation, this is an unparalleled opportunity to make a significant impact. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver who can navigate complex technical challenges, optimize resource utilization, and contribute to our mission of delivering sustainable, reliable energy to Jamaica.
