Job Description

King Faisal Hospital Kigali is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Pharmacist to join our dedicated healthcare team. This pivotal professional role involves ensuring the safe, effective, and rational use of medications across various hospital departments, contributing significantly to patient care outcomes. The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad spectrum of pharmaceutical services, including dispensing, compounding, patient counseling, drug information provision, and medication management. You will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize therapeutic regimens and promote medication safety. This role requires an individual with a deep understanding of pharmacology, pharmaceutical calculations, and regulatory compliance, coupled with excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. You will play a crucial part in our commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and maintaining the highest standards of pharmaceutical practice within a dynamic hospital environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications accurately and efficiently to inpatients and outpatients, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
  • Provide comprehensive drug information and counseling to patients and their caregivers regarding medication use, potential side effects, and adherence.
  • Review patient medication profiles to identify potential drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications, intervening as necessary.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile preparations according to established formulas and quality standards.
  • Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating stock to prevent expiry and ensure availability.
  • Participate in ward rounds and collaborate with medical and nursing staff to optimize medication therapy.
  • Monitor drug therapy outcomes and adverse drug reactions, reporting findings as per hospital policy.
  • Ensure strict adherence to hospital policies, national pharmaceutical regulations, and international best practices.
  • Contribute to drug utilization reviews and quality improvement initiatives within the pharmacy department.
  • Provide emergency pharmaceutical services and participate in on-call rotations as required.
  • Mentor junior pharmacy staff and participate in continuous professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapeutics.
  • Proficiency in pharmaceutical compounding and dispensing.
  • Strong understanding of medication safety principles and adverse drug reaction monitoring.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy management software and general office applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and ethical practice.
  • Knowledge of Rwandan pharmaceutical regulations and healthcare standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy or a related field.
  • Specialization or postgraduate training in Hospital Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy, or Pharmaceutical Management.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Previous experience in a tertiary or specialized hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or experience in supervising pharmacy technicians/assistants.
  • Fluency in French is an added advantage.
