Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pharmacist – Retail & Clinical to join our thriving healthcare team in Dalry, Edinburgh. This multifaceted role offers a unique opportunity to blend traditional retail pharmacy services with expanding clinical responsibilities, directly contributing to the health and well-being of our vibrant community. In this pivotal position, you will be at the forefront of delivering exceptional pharmaceutical care. Your daily activities will span accurate and safe medication dispensing, meticulously checking prescriptions and ensuring correct dosage and administration instructions. A significant aspect of your role will involve providing expert, empathetic patient counselling, where you will explain medication usage, potential side effects, and storage guidelines, empowering patients to manage their health effectively. You will also actively participate in the provision of enhanced clinical services, including but not limited to, medication use reviews (MURs), new medicine services (NMS), flu vaccinations, travel clinics, and minor ailment schemes, playing a crucial role in preventative care and chronic disease management within the community.

You will serve as a trusted health advisor, offering comprehensive, evidence-based guidance on prescription medications, over-the-counter remedies, and general health inquiries, ensuring patients receive the safest and most effective treatment tailored to their individual needs. This includes advising on healthy lifestyle choices, diet, and exercise. We value a proactive approach to healthcare, and you will be instrumental in identifying opportunities to improve patient outcomes, such as through adherence support programs and health promotion campaigns, and streamlining pharmacy operations for enhanced efficiency and patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurate and safe dispensing of prescription medications.
  • Provide comprehensive patient counselling on medication use, side effects, and health conditions.
  • Deliver enhanced clinical services, including MURs, NMS, vaccinations, and minor ailment schemes.
  • Offer expert advice on over-the-counter remedies and general health inquiries.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all GPhC regulations, legal, and ethical standards.
  • Manage pharmacy stock, including ordering, storage, and inventory control.
  • Supervise and mentor pharmacy support staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for service improvement and patient outcome enhancement.

Required Skills

  • GPhC registered Pharmacist with an active registration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and a commitment to evidence-based practice.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy operating systems and IT literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Independent Prescribing qualification.
  • Experience with advanced clinical pharmacy services.
  • Previous experience in a community pharmacy leadership or supervisory role.
  • Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.g., travel health, diabetes management).
