Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our bustling team at our Jeffreys Bay branch. This full-time position offers a vital role in ensuring the efficient and compassionate operation of our pharmacy, directly impacting the health and well-being of our community. As a Pharmacy Technician at Dis-Chem, you will work closely with our Pharmacists to accurately and safely dispense medication, manage critical pharmacy inventory, and provide a welcoming, informative, and helpful experience for all our customers. Your daily responsibilities will span from preparing prescriptions and maintaining meticulous stock control to assisting with essential administrative tasks and addressing patient queries with professionalism and empathy. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently prepare and dispense prescription medication under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients with over-the-counter medication selection, answering queries, and offering support with a professional and empathetic approach.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, and returning medications and supplies, ensuring optimal stock levels and expiry date management.
  • Maintain precise patient records and uphold strict confidentiality standards in accordance with POPIA and other relevant regulations.
  • Process insurance claims, handle cash transactions, and reconcile daily sales with accuracy.
  • Ensure the pharmacy environment remains clean, organized, and fully compliant with all health, safety, and operational standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of compounded medications as directed by the Pharmacist.
  • Effectively address customer concerns and escalate complex patient issues or clinical questions to the Pharmacist for resolution.
  • Actively participate in continuous professional development and mandatory training programs to stay updated with best practices and regulatory changes.

Required Skills

  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Minimum of 24 months (2 years) of proven experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably within a retail pharmacy or hospital setting.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, drug dosages, and comprehensive dispensing procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all tasks.
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy management software and point-of-sale systems.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and effectively collaborate as part of a dynamic team.
  • Demonstrated integrity, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Valid South African ID.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with Dis-Chem's specific pharmacy systems and operational protocols.
  • Additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as sterile compounding or immunizations.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English and Afrikaans) would be advantageous, reflecting the local demographic.
