Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and care on patients of all ages.
- Accurately identify patients and label specimens according to established protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all infection control and safety guidelines.
- Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients, explaining procedures and addressing any concerns.
- Process and prepare collected specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Document all procedures and patient information accurately in electronic and/or paper records.
- Monitor and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate effectively with medical staff, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and medical protocols.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle sensitive situations with empathy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a Phlebotomy training program.
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) from ASCP or a similar accredited organization (can be obtained post-hire).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Prior experience in a customer service or patient-facing role.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
