Career.zycto is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Entry-Level Photography Lighting Assistant to join our vibrant creative team in Yonge–Finch, Toronto. This is an incredible opportunity for someone passionate about photography and eager to learn the intricate art and science of studio and on-location lighting. As a Lighting Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our photo shoots run smoothly and efficiently, contributing directly to the high-quality visual content we produce for our diverse clientele.
We understand that everyone starts somewhere, and this role is specifically designed for individuals with little to no prior professional experience but possess a strong work ethic, a keen eye for detail, and a genuine interest in the technical aspects of photography. You will work closely with our lead photographers and senior lighting technicians, gaining invaluable hands-on experience with professional lighting equipment, grip gear, and studio setups. Your days will be dynamic, ranging from assisting with complex multi-light setups for product photography to quick adjustments for lifestyle shoots, and potentially outdoor location work.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead photographers and lighting technicians in setting up and dismantling lighting equipment (strobes, continuous lights, modifiers, stands).
- Organize and maintain lighting and grip equipment, ensuring all gear is in excellent working condition.
- Help with basic camera and lens preparation, battery management, and data offloading during shoots.
- Run cables, manage power sources, and ensure a safe and organized set environment.
- Monitor lighting throughout shoots, making minor adjustments as directed by the photographer.
- Assist with prop styling, background changes, and general set preparation.
- Learn and apply studio protocols, safety guidelines, and equipment handling best practices.
- Support post-production by organizing files and assisting with basic asset management.
- Maintain a clean and organized studio space and work area.
- Proactively anticipate needs on set and offer assistance to ensure smooth workflow.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of photography principles and a strong interest in lighting.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and move equipment (up to 30 lbs).
- A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn new skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrollment in or completion of a photography, film, or related creative arts program.
- Familiarity with basic studio lighting equipment and accessories (softboxes, umbrellas, reflectors).
- Experience with basic photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom) is a plus.
- A personal portfolio demonstrating interest in photography (even if amateur).
