Key Responsibilities
- Assist primary drivers with the loading and unloading of various goods and materials onto and from pickup trucks.
- Ensure all cargo is properly secured according to safety regulations and company policies before transit.
- Support the driver in navigating routes, including reading maps, using GPS, and communicating with dispatch.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and equipment, reporting any deficiencies.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the truck cabin and cargo area.
- Assist with basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as checking fluid levels and tire pressure.
- Communicate effectively with customers and team members, providing professional and courteous service.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company safety protocols, and transportation regulations.
- Assist with general labour tasks at job sites or delivery locations as required.
- Learn and apply best practices for efficient and safe driving operations.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly throughout the day.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour tasks and stand for extended periods.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Basic knowledge of Nanaimo and surrounding areas is an asset.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with cargo securement techniques.
