Key Responsibilities

  • Assist primary drivers with the loading and unloading of various goods and materials onto and from pickup trucks.
  • Ensure all cargo is properly secured according to safety regulations and company policies before transit.
  • Support the driver in navigating routes, including reading maps, using GPS, and communicating with dispatch.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and equipment, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the truck cabin and cargo area.
  • Assist with basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as checking fluid levels and tire pressure.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and team members, providing professional and courteous service.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company safety protocols, and transportation regulations.
  • Assist with general labour tasks at job sites or delivery locations as required.
  • Learn and apply best practices for efficient and safe driving operations.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour tasks and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Basic knowledge of Nanaimo and surrounding areas is an asset.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with cargo securement techniques.
