Job Description

Are you a skilled and dedicated Plumber seeking flexible part-time work within a critical national service? The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) is looking for an experienced Plumber to join our team in Buhera, Manicaland Province. This is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in a varied environment, contributing directly to the reliable supply and infrastructure of water for our communities.

In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of plumbing tasks, from routine maintenance and preventative checks on water infrastructure to emergency repairs and new installations. You will work within the Buhera district, addressing the unique challenges and requirements of both municipal and rural water systems. This includes working on pipelines, boreholes, pump stations, and other water reticulation components. Your days will be dynamic, requiring you to diagnose issues, implement effective solutions, and ensure all work adheres to ZINWA’s high standards of quality and safety. We are seeking someone who is not only technically proficient but also possesses a strong work ethic, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to serving the public. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of water supply infrastructure, including pipes, valves, pumps, and storage tanks.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective, long-lasting solutions.
  • Install new plumbing systems and components for water reticulation networks, adhering to blueprints and safety standards.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing call-outs, such as burst pipes or critical equipment failures, outside of normal working hours when required.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of water infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on each job.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and ZINWA policies.
  • Collaborate with other technical staff and community members to resolve water-related issues.
  • Provide clear communication and explanations to supervisors and, when appropriate, to affected communities regarding work progress.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Plumber, particularly with water infrastructure or municipal systems.
  • Solid understanding of plumbing systems, pipefitting, and water reticulation principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent physical stamina and dexterity for performing manual tasks.
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license (or equivalent) for operating company vehicles.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in diverse environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Certificate in Plumbing, Journeyman Card, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience working in a rural or remote setting.
  • Knowledge of local water regulations and environmental standards.
  • Experience with pump systems and borehole maintenance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with community members.
