Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Port Operator with a strong focus on Dock & Warehouse Coordination to join our dynamic team in Bedminster, Bristol. This pivotal role involves overseeing the efficient and safe movement of goods within the port facility, from vessel arrival to warehouse storage and onward distribution. You will be responsible for the meticulous planning, execution, and supervision of all dockside and warehouse activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, customs procedures, and company policies.
As a Port Operator, you will be instrumental in coordinating stevedoring operations, managing cargo manifest discrepancies, and ensuring optimal space utilization within our extensive warehousing facilities. This role demands a proactive individual with excellent communication skills, capable of liaising effectively with vessel captains, terminal management, customs officials, and internal logistics teams. You will be the crucial link between various operational departments, ensuring seamless transitions and minimizing delays. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate daily dock operations, including vessel loading and unloading, ensuring efficiency and adherence to schedules.
- Manage warehouse inventory, including receiving, storage, and dispatch of goods, utilizing inventory management systems.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards and regulations (HSE&Q).
- Supervise and direct port operatives, stevedores, and other ground staff, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing cargo for damage or discrepancies, reporting issues promptly.
- Operate or oversee the operation of various port equipment such as forklifts, reach stackers, and potentially cranes (if certified).
- Maintain accurate records of cargo movements, stock levels, and operational activities.
- Liaise with customs officials, shipping agents, and transport companies to facilitate smooth cargo flow.
- Implement and monitor security protocols for port and warehouse areas.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for operational processes and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years experience in port operations, logistics, or warehouse management.
- Proven experience with inventory management systems and cargo tracking.
- Strong understanding of port safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of leading and coordinating teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Valid UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications in port operations, logistics, or health and safety.
- Experience operating heavy machinery (e.g., forklifts, reach stackers) with relevant certification.
- Knowledge of customs procedures and international shipping regulations.
