Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and skilled Port Terminal Equipment Operator to join our dynamic team in Rodenkirchen, Cologne. This pivotal full-time role involves the safe and efficient operation of various heavy machinery essential for cargo handling within our bustling port terminal. You will be instrumental in the loading, unloading, and movement of containers, bulk cargo, and general freight, ensuring smooth transitions from vessel to shore and vice-versa. Key Responsibilities
- Operate various port terminal equipment (e.g., reach stackers, container handlers, forklifts, mobile harbor cranes) safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload cargo from vessels, trucks, and railcars, ensuring proper handling and securing.
- Stack and retrieve containers and other cargo within the terminal yard according to specific plans and instructions.
- Perform pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and report any malfunctions.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with ground personnel, supervisors, and other operators to coordinate movements and prevent incidents.
- Monitor equipment performance, fuel levels, and conduct minor troubleshooting as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area around the equipment and terminal facilities.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance operational skills and safety knowledge.
Required Skills
- Valid driver's license (Class C, CE or equivalent for heavy machinery)
- Proven experience operating heavy port or construction equipment
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures in a heavy industrial environment
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness
- Ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions and shift patterns
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment checks and minor troubleshooting
- Physical fitness to perform duties, including climbing and sustained concentration
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal certification or license for specific port terminal equipment (e.g., reach stacker, RTG, STS crane)
- Previous experience in a container terminal or port environment
- Knowledge of cargo handling procedures and terminal operating systems (TOS)
- First aid certification
- Proficiency in German language (B1 level or higher)
