Key Responsibilities
- Accurately sort and prepare mail for delivery at the local delivery office, ensuring all items are correctly sequenced for your route.
- Deliver letters, parcels, and other postal items to residential and business addresses on designated routes with precision and care.
- Navigate assigned routes efficiently, adhering to established delivery schedules and all relevant safety guidelines, whether on foot or using a vehicle.
- Interact professionally and courteously with members of the public, responding to inquiries and providing assistance as needed, always maintaining a positive brand image.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of all mail at all times during sorting, transit, and delivery, safeguarding customer privacy.
- Safely operate company vehicles (if applicable), performing routine pre-delivery checks and reporting any maintenance faults promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and postal service guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and the public.
- Manage daily workload independently, demonstrating initiative, problem-solving skills, and adaptability to changing conditions or volumes.
Required Skills
- Strong physical fitness and stamina for walking long distances, carrying mail bags, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities to complete routes efficiently and meet strict delivery deadlines.
- Ability to read maps and follow detailed delivery routes accurately, adapting to new areas or diversions as required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective and polite public interaction, even in challenging situations.
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong, dependable work ethic.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a larger team.
- A valid UK driving license with no more than 6 penalty points (if the role involves operating a delivery vehicle).
