Career.zycto is seeking a talented and dedicated Potter to join our creative team in Westmount, Waterloo. This exciting opportunity is for an individual passionate about ceramic arts, looking for a role that offers flexibility and a supportive environment. As a Potter, you will be instrumental in creating unique, high-quality ceramic pieces, from functional ware to decorative art. You will work within our well-equipped studio, utilizing various techniques including wheel throwing, hand-building, and glazing. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and create ceramic products using techniques like wheel throwing, slab building, and coiling.
  • Prepare clay, glazes, and materials for optimal quality and consistency.
  • Operate and maintain pottery equipment, including wheels and kilns, following safety protocols.
  • Decorate and glaze finished pieces, experimenting with different finishes and artistic styles.
  • Manage firing schedules and kiln loading/unloading.
  • Collaborate with team members on design concepts and production goals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe studio workspace.
  • Assist with inventory management of raw materials and finished goods.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in pottery, including proficiency in wheel throwing and hand-building techniques.
  • Strong understanding of clay properties, glazing chemistry, and kiln firing processes.
  • Excellent artistic and aesthetic sensibilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, especially with flexible hours.
  • Physical dexterity and stamina for hands-on work in a studio environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Fine Arts, Ceramics, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced glazing techniques and surface decoration.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a diverse range of ceramic work.
  • Familiarity with various types of kilns (electric, gas, wood) and their operation.
