This vital role involves assisting with the daily operations of our demonstration and partner poultry farms, ensuring the health, welfare, and optimal productivity of our flocks. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering of poultry, ensuring access to fresh food and water.
- Monitor flock health and identify any signs of illness, injury, or stress, reporting observations promptly.
- Administer basic treatments and medications under the guidance and supervision of the farm supervisor or veterinarian.
- Collect, clean, sort, and grade eggs according to quality standards.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in poultry houses, coops, and surrounding areas.
- Record accurate data on feed consumption, egg production, mortality rates, and other relevant farm metrics.
- Assist with the implementation of vaccination programs and strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance on farm equipment such as feeders, waterers, and ventilation systems.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, structural damages, or unusual flock behavior to the farm supervisor immediately.
- Participate in general farm duties as required, including waste management and environmental upkeep.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 1.5 years) in poultry farming or animal husbandry.
- Basic understanding of poultry health, nutrition, and common diseases.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25kg, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Strong observation skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions diligently and work independently when necessary.
- Basic record-keeping and data entry skills.
- Fluent in Swahili and English, both written and verbal, for effective communication.
- Commitment to animal welfare and ethical farming practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in Agriculture, Animal Science, Livestock Production, or a related field.
- Experience with different poultry breeds, including broilers, layers, and indigenous chickens.
- Knowledge of local agricultural regulations and biosecurity guidelines in Zanzibar.
- Valid motorcycle driving license with a clean record.
