Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily feeding and watering of poultry, ensuring adherence to strict feeding schedules and dietary requirements.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of coops, enclosures, and equipment to maintain a hygienic environment for the birds.
- Collect and sort eggs carefully, ensuring proper handling and storage according to quality standards.
- Monitor flock health daily, observing for any signs of illness, injury, or unusual behaviour, and reporting findings to supervisors.
- Assist with moving birds between enclosures or to other areas of the farm as needed, following humane handling practices.
- Participate in general farm maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, upkeep of grounds, and organization of supplies.
- Adhere strictly to all biosecurity measures and safety protocols to prevent disease spread and ensure a safe working environment.
- Operate basic farm equipment and machinery after proper training and under supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of feed consumption, egg production, and any health treatments administered.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 25 kg, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and a reliable, punctual attendance record.
- Willingness to learn new skills and follow instructions diligently.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and cleanliness.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a farm environment, which may include exposure to dust, odors, and varying temperatures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience, even informal, with animal care or farm work is a plus but not required.
- Basic understanding of animal welfare principles.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
