Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Public Relations (PR) Coordinator to join our team in Gwanda. This pivotal role will be instrumental in managing and enhancing the reputation of Caledonia Mining Corporation plc and Blanket Mine within the local community, national media, and among various stakeholders. The PR Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring public relations strategies that effectively communicate our values, achievements, and commitment to sustainable operations. You will be the frontline voice for the mine, responsible for crafting compelling narratives, coordinating media engagement, managing internal and external communications, and proactively fostering positive relationships. This role requires an individual with exceptional communication skills, a strategic mindset, and a deep understanding of local dynamics and media landscapes in Zimbabwe. You will play a crucial part in conveying our story of responsible mining, community partnership, and economic contribution to a diverse audience, ensuring transparency and trust are at the forefront of all our engagements. The successful candidate will navigate complex communication challenges, contribute to crisis management planning, and ensure that our brand identity and messaging are consistent and impactful across all platforms. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive PR strategies and campaigns aligned with corporate objectives and local community engagement goals.
  • Draft and distribute compelling press releases, media advisories, speeches, and other PR materials to local, national, and international media outlets.
  • Coordinate all media inquiries, interviews, and site visits, serving as a primary point of contact and spokesperson for the company when required.
  • Manage and update the company's social media channels and website content with PR-related news, community initiatives, and corporate announcements.
  • Organize and support community outreach programs, stakeholder engagement meetings, public forums, and corporate social responsibility events.
  • Monitor media coverage, track relevant industry news, analyze PR campaign effectiveness, and prepare detailed reports on outcomes and recommendations.
  • Assist in the development and execution of crisis communication plans to protect the company's reputation during unforeseen events.
  • Maintain and continually update comprehensive media contact lists and a database of key community and government stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments, including HR, operations, environmental, and safety, to ensure consistent and accurate messaging across all platforms.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and communication briefs for senior management and the board on PR activities, challenges, and successes.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to craft engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, nurture, and maintain strong relationships with media representatives, community leaders, and government officials.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in managing social media platforms and creating compelling digital content (text, image, video).
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, especially when handling sensitive information.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing communication landscapes.
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Ndebele, Shona) is highly advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in public relations, corporate communications, or media relations, preferably within the mining, heavy industry, or a related sector.
  • Experience with desktop publishing software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Photoshop) for creating visual communication materials.
  • In-depth knowledge of local cultural nuances, community dynamics, and the socio-political landscape in Matabeleland South Province.
  • Crisis communication training or demonstrable experience in managing challenging communication scenarios.
