Job Description
Are you a passionate and dedicated educator seeking a flexible opportunity to make a tangible impact on students’ lives? Islamic Relief Kenya is seeking highly motivated Private Tutors to provide personalized academic support to students across Wajir County. This role is designed for individuals who thrive in a flexible environment and are committed to helping learners achieve their educational goals. As a Private Tutor, you will work one-on-one or with small groups of students, tailoring your teaching methods to meet their unique learning styles and academic needs. Your primary goal will be to strengthen understanding in various subjects, build confidence, and foster a love for learning. This includes assisting with homework, preparing for exams, clarifying complex concepts, and developing critical thinking skills. We are looking for tutors who can cover a range of subjects, including but not limited to Mathematics, English, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), and Kiswahili, for primary and secondary school levels. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, empathy, and a profound ability to motivate and engage students from diverse backgrounds. This is a crucial role in our mission to enhance educational outcomes and support the academic journey of young people in Wajir County, often in challenging circumstances. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized tutoring plans based on student needs and learning objectives.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction in specified subjects (e.g., Mathematics, English, Sciences, Kiswahili).
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Help students develop effective study habits, organizational skills, and test-taking strategies.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and program coordinators regarding progress and challenges.
- Create engaging and interactive learning experiences to maintain student interest and motivation.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student attendance, and academic achievements.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, child protection guidelines, and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in subjects to be tutored (e.g., Mathematics, English, Sciences, Kiswahili)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with students
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- A commitment to student success and ethical tutoring practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Education, or a related field
- Prior experience in tutoring, teaching, or mentoring children/youth (minimum 1 year)
- Knowledge of the Kenyan national curriculum (CBC and 8-4-4)
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Ability to use creative and innovative teaching resources
- Residency in Wajir County or strong familiarity with the local community
