Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and culturally sensitive Private Tutor to provide personalised educational and integration support for foreigners in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. This unique role goes beyond traditional academic tutoring; it involves offering comprehensive assistance to non-native English speakers as they navigate the British educational system, local customs, and daily life.
As a Private Tutor, you will play a crucial role in empowering our clients to achieve their academic goals and confidently integrate into the local community. Your expertise will be invaluable in improving their English language proficiency, clarifying complex subject matters, and providing practical guidance on everything from understanding public transport to cultural nuances. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver tailored tutoring sessions in English language (ESL/EFL), academic subjects (e.g., Maths, Science, Humanities), or specific skill areas as per client needs.
- Assess students' current proficiency and learning styles to create customised learning plans.
- Provide practical guidance on British culture, local customs, public services, and everyday communication.
- Help foreign students understand the UK education system, including assignment expectations, referencing, and academic integrity.
- Prepare engaging and culturally appropriate learning materials, exercises, and assessments.
- Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adjust teaching methods as necessary.
- Maintain regular communication with students to ensure their needs are being met and to foster a supportive learning relationship.
- Adhere to Career.zycto’s safeguarding policies and professional conduct guidelines.
Required Skills
- Native or near-native English proficiency (C2 level).
- Proven experience in tutoring or teaching, particularly with non-native English speakers or international students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a high degree of cultural sensitivity and empathy.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles and proficiency levels.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a flexible schedule.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace for creating learning materials.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, English Language, Linguistics, or a relevant academic discipline.
- TESOL, CELTA, DELTA, or other recognised English language teaching qualification.
- Experience living or working abroad, demonstrating personal understanding of cultural adaptation challenges.
- Familiarity with the UK educational curriculum and higher education systems.
- Ability to communicate in a second language (even basic proficiency can be beneficial).
