Job Description
We are seeking an innovative and empathetic Product Designer to join our dynamic Digital Banking team in Mandera County. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in shaping the user experience and interface of our next-generation digital products, primarily focusing on mobile banking, online platforms, and internal tools that empower our staff and customers in the region. This is an exciting opportunity for a designer who is passionate about leveraging design thinking to solve complex financial challenges and create intuitive, delightful, and impactful digital experiences. You will be responsible for the entire design lifecycle, from user research and ideation to prototyping, user testing, and final UI implementation. Working closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, you will translate business requirements and user needs into tangible, user-friendly designs that align with KCB’s brand identity and strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio demonstrating their ability to deliver exceptional user-centered designs, a deep understanding of human-computer interaction principles, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Your work will directly influence how our customers interact with their finances, making a real difference in their daily lives and contributing to KCB’s continued leadership in the Kenyan financial sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to understand user behaviors, needs, and pain points.
- Translate research findings into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for new features and product enhancements.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and ensure design feasibility and implementation.
- Develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and component libraries to ensure consistency and efficiency across all digital products.
- Iterate on designs based on feedback from user testing, data analysis, and stakeholder reviews.
- Present design concepts and solutions clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, justifying design decisions with user research and best practices.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies in UI/UX design and financial technology.
- Champion user-centered design principles and best practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Contribute to a culture of design excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design processes and successful product launches.
- Solid understanding of UX principles, information architecture, and interaction design.
- Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
- Excellent visual design skills with an eye for detail and aesthetics.
- Ability to communicate design concepts and rationale clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in creating and maintaining design systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience working in the financial services or FinTech industry.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Basic understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Experience with motion graphics and animation for UI.
