Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Estimator with a strong focus on cost evaluation to join our dynamic team in Horsforth, Leeds. This pivotal role requires an individual with a keen eye for detail, exceptional analytical abilities, and a proven track record in accurately forecasting project costs within the construction and engineering sectors. As a Project Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing comprehensive cost estimates by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation. Your expertise will guide decision-making processes, identifying potential risks and opportunities to optimise resource allocation and project profitability. You will work collaboratively with project managers, procurement teams, and clients, transforming complex technical data into clear, actionable financial projections. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for various projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation.
  • Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, materials, labor, and subcontractor costs, across all project phases.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to understand project scope, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with project specifications and budget constraints.
  • Assess potential risks and opportunities, applying appropriate contingency planning and value engineering principles.
  • Maintain comprehensive databases of cost information, market rates, and historical data for future estimation accuracy.
  • Present detailed estimates and cost breakdowns to management and stakeholders, providing clear justifications and insights.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, material costs, labor rates, and regulatory changes to ensure competitive and compliant estimates.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (4+ years) as a Project Estimator or similar role in the construction or engineering industry.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, CostX) and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Sound understanding of project management principles and financial analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIOB, AACE International).
  • Experience with complex, multi-phase projects and different contract types.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and supply chain in the UK.
