Job Description

Are you a meticulous and analytical individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for construction? UBP is seeking an experienced Project Estimator to join our dynamic team in Lalmatie, Flacq District. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the successful execution of our diverse range of projects, from large-scale infrastructure developments to residential and commercial ventures.

The Project Estimator will be responsible for accurately calculating the cost and quantity of materials, labor, and equipment required for various construction projects. Your expertise will directly influence project feasibility, profitability, and competitive bidding. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and suppliers, translating complex technical specifications and blueprints into precise cost estimates. This role demands exceptional analytical skills, a solid understanding of construction methodologies, and the ability to adapt to varying project scopes and market conditions. Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for all construction materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Solicit and review bids from subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and prices.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and scope.
  • Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities associated with project costs and schedules.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive database of historical project costs, material prices, and labor rates.
  • Conduct site visits as necessary to gather information, assess conditions, and verify estimates.
  • Prepare and present detailed cost reports, proposals, and tender documents to senior management and clients.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, market prices for materials, and new construction technologies.
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets and ensure adherence to financial guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Project Estimator in the construction or civil engineering sector.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A keen eye for detail and commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in estimating or project management (e.g., RICS, CIOB, PMP).
  • Experience with local Mauritian building codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with tender procedures and contract management (e.g., FIDIC).
