Job Description
Nedbank is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Relations Officer to join our dynamic team in Mahikeng, North West. This full-time role is pivotal in enhancing and safeguarding Nedbank’s esteemed brand image and reputation across the region. As a Public Relations Officer, you will be instrumental in conceptualising, developing, and executing comprehensive public relations strategies that resonate with our diverse stakeholders, including clients, media, local communities, and government entities. Your core responsibility will involve proactive and reactive media relations, positioning Nedbank as a thought leader and a responsible corporate citizen. This includes drafting impactful press releases, articles, and speeches that effectively communicate our strategic initiatives, financial performance, and community investments. You will be the primary point of contact for media inquiries within the North West province, requiring exceptional judgment and communication skills to manage narratives and respond to media requests promptly and professionally. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in crisis communication, developing robust plans and executing swift responses to protect the bank’s reputation during challenging times. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute effective PR strategies tailored to the Mahikeng and broader North West market.
- Cultivate and maintain strong, positive relationships with local media outlets, journalists, and key community influencers.
- Draft and distribute compelling press releases, media advisories, articles, speeches, and other PR materials.
- Coordinate media interviews, press conferences, and public appearances for regional spokespersons.
- Monitor media coverage, analyse PR campaign effectiveness, and prepare detailed reports on key metrics and sentiment.
- Proactively identify potential issues and manage crisis communication situations effectively to protect the company's reputation.
- Plan, organise, and provide PR support for corporate events, sponsorships, and community engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including marketing, digital communications, and executive leadership, to ensure consistent brand messaging.
- Develop engaging content for various communication platforms, including social media, website, and internal communications channels.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and local socio-political developments to inform PR strategies.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven experience in media relations, stakeholder engagement, and public affairs.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or Marketing.
- Minimum of 4 years of demonstrable experience in a public relations role, preferably within the financial services sector.
- Fluency in Setswana or other indigenous South African languages relevant to the North West province.
- Existing network of media contacts and key influencers within the North West province.
- Certification in Public Relations (e.g., PRISA – Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa).
