As a Quantity Surveyor specializing in Construction Estimate, you will play a pivotal role in the planning, budgeting, and execution phases of various county projects, ranging from roads and bridges to public buildings, health facilities, and water supply systems. Your expertise will be crucial in preparing accurate cost estimates from inception, managing procurement processes, and diligently administering construction contracts to achieve project objectives within stipulated timelines and budgets. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documents for various construction and infrastructure projects.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analysis for proposed projects.
- Evaluate contractor tenders, provide recommendations, and assist in contract negotiations.
- Administer construction contracts, including processing interim valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Monitor project costs against budget, identify potential cost overruns, and implement corrective measures.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Advise on procurement strategies and contract conditions to ensure compliance with public procurement regulations.
- Conduct site visits to verify work progress, assess claims, and resolve contractual disputes.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of all project-related financial documentation and correspondence.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) or actively pursuing registration.
- At least 3 years of post-qualification experience in quantity surveying, preferably in the public sector or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in construction estimation software (e.g., BuildSoft, CostX, or similar) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
- Thorough knowledge of local construction laws, regulations, and public procurement procedures.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to ethical practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership in the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK).
- Master's degree in Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or a related field.
- Experience with FIDIC forms of contract.
- Demonstrated experience in value engineering and life-cycle costing.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
