Job Description

Are you a meticulous and highly analytical Quantity Surveyor with a passion for precise estimation and cost control? Rehm Grinaker Construction Co. Ltd. is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Tranquebar, Port Louis. This pivotal role involves managing all commercial aspects of construction projects, from initial feasibility studies and tender preparation to contract administration and final account settlement. You will be instrumental in ensuring the financial health of our projects, delivering maximum value for our clients while maintaining profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for various construction projects, including material, labor, and subcontractor costs.
  • Conduct detailed quantity take-offs from architectural and structural drawings.
  • Develop and manage tender documentation, including bills of quantities and specifications.
  • Evaluate and analyze tenders received from contractors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Undertake contract administration, including preparing contractual claims, variations, and final accounts.
  • Prepare interim valuations for payment applications and provide regular cost reports to project stakeholders.
  • Perform risk and value management and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Negotiate and agree on prices with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring best value for money.
  • Provide expert advice on contractual matters, procurement strategies, and cost-saving measures.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure clear communication and understanding of project finances.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in construction estimation software (e.g., CostX, Buildsoft) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, legal frameworks, and procurement methods.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership or working towards membership of a professional body (e.g., RICS, IQS).
