Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all commercial aspects of construction projects from tender stage through to final account.
  • Prepare and submit accurate valuations, cost reports, and comprehensive financial forecasts.
  • Administer contract terms and conditions, ensuring full compliance and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Negotiate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve optimal financial and project outcomes.
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis and provide insightful advice on commercial viability of projects and variations.
  • Prepare and review sub-contract orders, manage variations, and assess contractual claims.
  • Monitor project progress and expenditure rigorously, ensuring strict adherence to budgets and schedules.
  • Identify, evaluate, and advise on commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, design teams, and site teams to ensure integrated project success.
  • Contribute actively to the continuous improvement of commercial processes, procedures, and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably within the UK construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of various construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC) and contract law.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting and cost control software (e.g., Causeway, COINS, Excel).
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Full UK driving license and a willingness to travel to various project sites across South Wales.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and thrive as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
  • Chartered status or actively working towards RICS accreditation.
  • Demonstrable experience with major construction projects (e.g., large-scale residential, complex commercial, critical infrastructure).
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its applications in commercial management.
