Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our project team based in May Pen, Clarendon Parish. As a Professional Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in managing all costs and financial aspects related to our construction projects, from initial feasibility studies through to final accounts. This pivotal position requires a meticulous approach to cost planning, procurement, and contract administration, ensuring projects are delivered within budget and to the highest standards. You will be instrumental in ensuring financial viability and cost efficiency, providing expert advice on contractual matters, and mitigating financial risks. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities, exceptional negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of construction economics and project lifecycle costing in the Jamaican context. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates, and bills of quantities from concept to final design stages.
- Manage the procurement process, including drafting tender documents, evaluating bids, and making recommendations.
- Administer construction contracts, including handling claims, variations, and extensions of time.
- Conduct site measurements, prepare valuations for progress payments, and manage cash flow.
- Prepare and agree upon final accounts with contractors and clients.
- Provide expert advice on cost control measures, value engineering, and risk management.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to ensure project success.
- Undertake regular site visits to monitor progress, assess quality, and verify work done.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to all financial aspects of projects.
- Stay updated with industry trends, material costs, and relevant construction legislation in Jamaica.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably in civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in measurement software (e.g., CostX, QSCad) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
- Strong understanding of Jamaican construction contracts (e.g., JCC, FIDIC) and procurement procedures.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proven negotiation and dispute resolution capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional membership with a relevant body (e.g., Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – RICS, Jamaican Institute of Quantity Surveyors – JICQS).
- Postgraduate qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, or Project Management.
- Experience with project management software.
- Knowledge of local planning regulations and building codes.
- Experience in sustainable construction practices and cost implications.
