Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of rail tracks, points, crossings, and associated infrastructure.
- Identify and report defects, wear, and potential hazards, ensuring immediate action where necessary.
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance tasks, including rail replacement, grinding, and re-sleepering.
- Operate specialist rail maintenance equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Respond promptly to emergency call-outs and unplanned incidents, working to restore normal service.
- Adhere strictly to all railway safety regulations, company policies, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, inspections, and material usage.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Rail Maintenance Operative or similar role within the railway industry.
- Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) qualification.
- Strong understanding of railway infrastructure and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in challenging outdoor conditions, including various weather patterns and uneven terrain.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and measurements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional rail safety qualifications (e.g., COSS, Lookout, Machine Controller).
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance or a related field.
- Experience operating various types of rail plant machinery.
- Full UK driving licence.
- First Aid at Work certification.
