Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Railway Technician to join our vital Track & Equipment Maintenance team in Wilmslow, Manchester. As a Railway Technician, you will be at the forefront of maintaining the integrity of tracks, signals, and associated equipment, playing a crucial role in the smooth operation of daily rail services. Your work will involve a variety of tasks from routine inspections and preventative maintenance to rapid response fault resolution, often in challenging outdoor environments. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs of railway tracks, switches, crossings, and associated components.
- Perform diagnostic checks and preventative maintenance on signalling systems, points mechanisms, and other trackside equipment.
- Respond promptly to track and equipment faults or emergencies, carrying out effective on-site repairs to minimize service disruption.
- Utilize specialized tools and machinery for maintenance tasks, ensuring their safe and correct operation.
- Adhere strictly to all railway safety regulations, operational procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Accurately record maintenance activities, fault reports, and material usage, contributing to comprehensive record-keeping.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other operational staff to ensure coordinated work efforts.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance technical knowledge and safety competencies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Railway Technician or similar role in track and equipment maintenance.
- Solid understanding of railway infrastructure components, including track geometry, points, and crossings.
- Demonstrable experience with maintenance tools and machinery specific to railway environments.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities under pressure.
- Commitment to health and safety procedures and regulations within a railway context.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, often involving manual labour.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification in railway engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification.
- Experience with signalling systems and their maintenance.
- Full UK Driving License.
- First Aid certification.
