Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of railway tracks, points, crossings, and associated civil infrastructure.
- Perform diagnostic checks and fault finding on trackside equipment, signalling apparatus, and overhead line equipment (where applicable).
- Carry out preventative maintenance activities to minimise operational disruptions and extend asset lifespan.
- Respond promptly to emergency call-outs for track or equipment failures, ensuring rapid and safe resolution.
- Operate and maintain specialised track maintenance machinery and tools in accordance with safety regulations.
- Adhere strictly to all railway safety standards, operational procedures, and environmental policies.
- Complete accurate documentation of all work performed, including inspection reports, maintenance logs, and incident reports.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure coordinated operations.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge of new technologies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Railway Technician or in a similar heavy industrial/mechanical maintenance role.
- Strong understanding of railway track components, construction, and maintenance techniques.
- Proficiency in using a range of hand tools, power tools, and specialised track equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to fault finding.
- Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Good physical fitness, capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions and undertaking manual labour.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Railway Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification.
- Experience with signalling systems or overhead line equipment.
- Knowledge of railway standards and regulations (e.g., Network Rail standards).
- First Aid certification.
