Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and motivated Recycling Center Assistant to join our team immediately at our Red Hills facility. This critical full-time role involves hands-on support for the efficient day-to-day operation of our recycling center, ensuring that collected materials are correctly sorted, processed, and meticulously prepared for onward shipment or further transformation. As an integral part of our operational staff, you will be on the front lines of our mission to create a cleaner and more sustainable Jamaica. This role requires robust physical stamina, meticulous attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment at all times. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, unload, and inspect incoming recyclable materials (plastics, paper, glass, etc.) from collection vehicles.
- Sort and separate various types of recyclable materials manually or using basic equipment, ensuring proper categorization.
- Operate balers, compactors, and other light machinery used in the recycling process safely and efficiently.
- Monitor equipment for proper functioning and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the recycling center, including sweeping, tidying, and waste disposal.
- Assist with loading processed materials onto outgoing transportation.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Support inventory management by tracking quantities of incoming and outgoing materials as required.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Recycling Center Supervisor to support overall facility goals.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly throughout the day.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate sorting and identification of materials.
- Basic understanding of safety protocols in an industrial or warehouse setting.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- Reliability and strong work ethic, including punctuality and consistent attendance.
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Basic literacy (reading and writing) for documentation and safety instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent General Certificate of Education (GCE/CXC).
- Previous experience (6+ months) in a warehouse, production, or waste management environment.
- Familiarity with recycling processes and different material types.
- Knowledge of basic machinery operation and maintenance.
- Certification in occupational safety and health (e.g., OSHA 10-hour) is a plus.
