Job Description
Career.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Refinery Operator to join our client’s state-of-the-art petrochemical facility in Durlach, Karlsruhe. This critical role involves the direct operation, monitoring, and maintenance of complex refinery equipment and processes to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production. As a Refinery Operator, you will be at the heart of our operations, safeguarding product quality, optimizing yields, and upholding the highest standards of environmental compliance and safety. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor refinery processing units and equipment, including distillation columns, reactors, furnaces, and pumps, from a control room and field.
- Adjust controls and valves to regulate flow rates, temperatures, pressures, and levels to meet product specifications and production targets.
- Conduct regular field checks and inspections of equipment, identifying and reporting any anomalies, malfunctions, or potential hazards.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, troubleshoot operational issues, and participate in shutdown and start-up procedures.
- Collect samples for laboratory analysis and interpret results to ensure process parameters are within acceptable limits.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and operational procedures, participating in safety drills and incident investigations.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, shift reports, and documentation of process conditions and activities.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure seamless operations and effective communication.
- Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, emergencies, and deviations from normal operating conditions.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Refinery Operator or similar role in a petrochemical or heavy industrial environment.
- Solid understanding of refinery processes, equipment, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and other technical diagrams.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to monitor multiple parameters simultaneously.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and environmental regulations.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Physical fitness to perform tasks that may involve lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
- Fluency in German (B2 level or higher) and English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree or certification in Process Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with distributed control systems (DCS) and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
- Certification in relevant safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH).
- Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems for maintenance and logistics.
- First aid and fire safety training.
