Job Description

Are you an experienced and skilled Refrigeration Technician passionate about ensuring optimal performance in cold storage environments? Inyange Industries Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Refrigeration Technician to join our team in Musanze. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all refrigeration systems and cold storage units across our Musanze operations. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining the integrity and quality of our perishable products, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and minimizing downtime. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong technical background in industrial refrigeration, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. You will work within a fast-paced manufacturing and distribution environment, collaborating with production, logistics, and quality assurance teams to uphold our reputation for excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various types of refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, display cases, and industrial chilling units.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration equipment to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and longevity.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in refrigeration systems and execute effective, lasting repairs.
  • Charge refrigerants, test for leaks, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safe handling practices.
  • Monitor system performance, record data, and generate comprehensive reports on equipment status and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams, production, and quality assurance to resolve complex issues and implement system improvements.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns promptly and efficiently, minimizing operational disruptions and product loss.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, food safety standards (HACCP, ISO), and all company policies.
  • Maintain accurate service records and an organized inventory of spare parts and tools.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff or facility operators as needed.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in refrigeration to continuously improve service quality.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Refrigeration Technician, specifically with industrial cold storage systems.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC/R principles, refrigeration cycles, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals accurately.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults in refrigeration units.
  • Familiarity with various refrigerants (e.g., R404A, R134a) and their safe handling practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team in a demanding environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective reporting and collaboration.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technology or a related technical field.
  • Certification in refrigerant handling (e.g., EPA Section 608 or equivalent international certification).
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems (NH3).
  • Knowledge of food processing industry standards and regulations (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000).
  • Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing or food production environment.
